You Keep Me Listing

I’m packing up for a flight that leaves tonight
It’s the longest we’ve ever been apart since the start

So here is a list
Of all of what I’ll miss

I can only start like this and I won’t finish
Your lips on my fingertips in the morning
The smell of your hair, your atmosphere and your air
How you creep downstairs to find the cat down there

Wait, how can I list
All of what I’ll miss

Your legs hanging off the bed in the morning
Because you want to give the dog room to live
Your trail of glasses and they’re always half full
The look on your face when on garden gloves you pull

The sleep sounds you make through any earthquake
And the cry of surprise when you hear me plug in my phone
If I charge my phone when I’m away whose eyes will I wake
The answer is no one’s that is until I’m home

Wait, how can I list
All of what I’ll miss

Electricity when you’re near me and catch a laugh
Your little feet when you take your socks off
Taking on water and now my eyes are misting
From all the reasons you’re giving me I’m listing

See how I list
Sinking in what I’ll miss
Sinking in what I’ll miss
