Simpler Times

I recall the simpler times
This one time we went to New York City
Stayed out all night, the next day we weren’t pretty
Felt like death but took a breath and rallied back alive
How I miss the simpler times
How I miss the simpler times
How I miss the simpler times

We left my car somewhere in White Plains
Took the train to Union Station
Pulling luggage through busy city streets
Dragging our lives even further behind
How I miss the simpler times
Even if only in my mind
Even if only in my mind

It was a long weekend
Too long or not enough
We were dragging by the end
Sick and tired of feeling so alive
Still I miss the simpler times
Even if only in my mind
Even if only in my mind

I think I was thrown out of a bar
Politely but I guess I was dancing too hard
We took a cab for a quarter mile
Pulled onions from your purse and then you smiled
How I miss the simpler times
Even if only in my mind
Even if only in my mind

I recall the simpler times
Once we went to New York City
Left behind what ties us down
Now it’s like we can’t leave town
How I miss the simpler times
Even if only in my mind
Even if only in my mind
